I’d rather be in Nisyros
It’s cold here in Maine today with night-time temperatures below zero. The ground is frozen and covered in a crust of hard snow. To make matters worse, the wind is blowing. Raw and merciless, it cuts deep, right through your very soul. The sun peaks out occasionally just to tease us and remind us playfully, that it’s still there. I would much rather be on an Aegean island called Nisyros. I wish the sun could warm these old bones and bathe me in the pure Greek light. I wish I could look up and see the blue, cloudless sky and watch the sun set in the wine colored sea. I wish I was faraway from cell phones,Chanel Sunglasses, computers, televisions, the stock market,Louis Vuitton Handbags, wars and all the useless accoutrements of modern life. I wish I could sit in the shade of a grape arbor, sip the nectar of the Gods and listen to little children play while smelling the aroma of fresh fish frying in olive oil. I wish I could feel the gentle sea breeze on my face and hear the church bells in the distance. I wish could listen to cicadas at dusk and revel again in the sounds of home.
