Today we had one of those bitingly cold mornings in Sydney that leaves you with hands incapable of proper movement when you first get into the office.

At $699, the new MSI Wind12 U230 is a decently priced ultraportable notebook computer.

Given its ultraportable and compact form factor, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the U230 for a netbook at first glance. The HTC Snap is the latest addition to the HTC stable of phones, and while it does not really break any new ground, it is a reliable and relatively inexpensive basic smartphone.

The HTC Snap is a messaging-focused phone, as evidenced by the inclusion of an excellent QWERTY keyboard (this is not a touchscreen phone). The keyboard sits below the 2.4-inch screen and a trackball, similar to what you’d find on a BlackBerry phone.

The most outstanding feature of the HTC Snap is Inner Circle, a feature that allows you to add your most-used or favourite contacts to a single list. When you receive emails from your Inner Circle they go straight to their own separate message list, so you can access them with the touch of a single key as needed. These emails also go to the main list of messages.

Some of HTC’s high-end phones have some very advanced features, but the Snap isn’t one of them. The feature set includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP profile), HSDPA radios and a GPS receiver. HTC has also equipped the Snap with Windows Mobile 6.1.

The HTC Snap is available exclusively in Australia on the Telstra network for the three months to November priced at $0 upfront on a $60 or higher phone plan.

A Fashion Manifesto

With the passing of fashion legend of Yves San Laurent came much mourning. He was an icon who absolutely loved to put clothes on women and push the envelope. Who can forget his ability to make women wearing pants a chic statement back when women only wore skirts and dresses? For that alone he deserves his reputation.

It should come as no surprise, then that his company is still moving on despite the loss and making some big waves in the meantime. As both a marketing campaign and a tribute to the man himself, the YSL fashion house is doing something big with its fall line.

The manifesto is the brainchild of designer Stefano Pilato and features one of San Laurent's favorite models, Naomi Campbell. They teamed with famed fashion photogs Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin to take the pictures of the troubled but also iconic model.

The booklet that was made from their collaboration will be distributed on the streets of Paris, New York, London, Milan, Tokyo and Hong Kong. A select few will also get a copy and an accompanying tote bag that is sure to become an instant collector's item and fetch quite a price amongst YSL-hungry fashionistas.

Hooray for Wide leg jeans!

So I’m supposed to be enjoying a relaxing California vacation right now, but JetBlue cancelled my flight for no reason and can’t rebook me until Saturday morning. So I look to the new style in denim to cheer me up.

Is anyone else besides me thrilled to see wide leg pants coming back? I was never able to successfully master the skinny jeans, and not for lack of trying. Even though I am tall and have a thin frame (ie skinny) the actually skinny jeans always looked dreadful on me. They managed to make my butt look huge and out of proportion giving me the dreaded “carrot” shape. Wide leg, flare, or bell bottom jeans always look much better on my frame, for whatever reason.

WhoWhatWear Daily, one of my favorite reads, has a great article about the wide legs, including my most recent denim purchase Seven’s Ginger jeans, which might be the most flattering pair of jeans I have ever worn. And a dark enough denim that I can wear them to work. I’m not the only fan it looks like since the article calls them a “celeb favorite”!

The only tricky part about the wide legs is that finding just the right pair of shoes can be tricky. I’ve had some luck with my Frye chunky sandals but when I want to wear a more relaxed outfit with flat shoes the jean are to long and I just can’t let them drag on the ground. So as much as I love my Ginger jeans I haven’t gotten too much use out of them.

Today my plan is to do all the things I WOULD have done had I landed in San Fran last night. I started with a relaxing breakfast at the local diner while reading the newspaper. I’m now going to head out for a mani/pedi and some shopping. My attire will be my Ginger jeans and some cork wedges. We will see how that shoe/jeans combination works out.
